Monthly vs Annual Billing

PlanMonthly RateAnnual RateSavings
Starter$13.49/user/mo$10.99/user/mo18.5%
Advanced$30.49/user/mo$24.99/user/mo18.0%

Annual billing saves 18-19% on both Starter and Advanced. Enterprise contracts are always annual with custom rates. Be aware that annual billing locks you in for 12 months with no mid-term downgrade option.

What Changed in Late 2025

Free plan slashed from 10 to 2 users

The most significant change. Teams of 3 or more now need Starter ($10.99/user/mo) at minimum. Legacy accounts created before November 12, 2025 may retain 10-user access temporarily.

Plans renamed

Premium became Starter. Business became Advanced. The pricing structure shifted to lower base prices with clearer tiering.

AI Studio introduced

A new add-on layer: AI Studio Basic (included with Starter+), AI Studio Plus (included with Advanced+ or paid add-on), and AI Studio Pro (Enterprise+ or paid add-on). This adds a new cost dimension.

Base prices adjusted

Starter dropped to $10.99/user/mo annual (from the old Premium at $13.49). Advanced dropped to $24.99/user/mo annual (from the old Business at $30.49). But the free plan reduction means more teams pay.

5 Asana Pricing Gotchas

1

The 2-user free wall

Asana's free plan now supports only 2 users. A team of 3 needs Starter at minimum, adding $395/year (3 users, annual). Compare this to ClickUp (free for unlimited users) or Jira (free for 10 users).

2

Per-user compounding at growth rates

If your 25-person team grows 20% per year, your Starter bill goes from $3,297/year to $5,709/year in 3 years. That is not linear: each new hire adds $132/year to the bill. Budget for growth, not just today's headcount.

3

The 127% Starter-to-Advanced jump

Going from Starter ($10.99) to Advanced ($24.99) per user is a 127% price increase. At 50 users, that is an extra $8,400/year. Make sure you genuinely need portfolios, goals, or workload management before upgrading.

4

AI Studio add-on costs

AI Studio Basic is included with Starter, but rate-limited. AI Studio Plus and Pro are paid add-ons that layer on top of your base plan cost. For teams that lean heavily on AI features, this can add $4-$10/user/month.

5

Annual billing lock-in

Annual plans do not allow mid-term downgrades. If you buy Advanced for 50 users and realize Starter would suffice after 3 months, you are locked in for the remaining 9 months. That is potentially $6,300 in overspend.

Pricing FAQ

Can I switch between monthly and annual billing?

You can switch from monthly to annual at any time to get the lower rate. Switching from annual to monthly is only possible at renewal. You cannot downgrade mid-annual-term.

Are there discounts for nonprofits?

Yes. Asana offers 50% off Starter and Advanced plans for verified nonprofits and educational institutions. Apply through Asana's nonprofit program.

What happens to my data if I downgrade?

If you downgrade from Advanced to Starter, you lose access to portfolios, goals, and workload views. Your data is preserved but hidden behind the paywall. You can still export it.

How does Asana pricing compare to competitors?

At the Starter tier, Asana ($10.99/user/mo) is more expensive than ClickUp ($7), Jira ($7.91), and Trello ($5), but cheaper than Wrike ($10) and comparable to Monday.com ($12). At the Advanced tier ($24.99), the gap widens significantly.

Does Asana offer a free trial?

Asana offers a 30-day free trial of the Advanced plan. No credit card required. After the trial, you revert to the Personal (free) plan unless you subscribe.
